Poor Richard

On November 9, 1964, the pre-Broadway premiere of POOR RICHARD opened, featuring Alan Bates, Gene Hackman, Joanna Pettet, and Joan Alexander. Written by Jean Kerr and directed by Peter Wood, POOR RICHARD tells the story of a poet who has recently lost his wife and the secretary who falls in love with him.

The play ran went on to open on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre on December 2, 1964, where it ran for 118 performances. The New York Post wrote about POOR RICHARD, "a thoroughly delightful evening. . . . Not only steadily funny but remarkably touching."
