Bars
There are 3 full-service bars throughout the Emerson Colonial Theater. Offering everything from local specialty brews to Frosé from Provence, we hope that our signature snacks and unique beverage selection will pleasantly surprise you. You will find two bars on the ground floor as well as one on the third floor, for those seated in the Mezzanine or Balcony.

The Ambassador Lounge
Entrance into the Ambassador Lounge includes express entry into the theatre and dedicated bar service. Additional amenities include complimentary coat and bag check, private restroom facilities and access to a private staircase to get you right to your seat. Please note that there is no elevator access to the Ambassador Lounge.

Guests are invited to immerse themselves in stories of the building's rich history, specifically about the birth of musicals at the Emerson Colonial Theatre prior to their Broadway bows, admire the famed architecture from the turn of the last century and take a behind-the-scenes look at Boston’s oldest continuously-operated theatre.

The tours are in celebration of the one year anniversary since the Emerson Colonial Theatre-opened its doors. Tickets for the tours are $17 and on sale to the public. As a special add-on for festively-minded guests over 21 years of age, $35 tour tickets are available, which includes a glass of champagne to join in the celebration of the theatre’s anniversary.

When does the theatre open before the show?
Unless otherwise noted, lobby doors will open one hour prior to the performance and the auditorium doors will open 30 minutes prior to each performance. Please arrive 45 minutes prior to the start of the performance to allow time for bag inspection and security check.

Is late seating allowed?
Late seating policies vary show-to-show. When allowed, latecomers will be seated at the discretion of management at an appropriate moment during the show. Guests will be notified ahead of time if late seating is not permitted for any performance.

Can I leave the theatre and return during the performance?
Guests entering the building must have their ticket with them at all times. Re-entry to the performance is at the discretion of each show and may be subject to holding times and/or refusal. Please check with an usher before leaving the performance.

How will I find out if a performance is cancelled/postponed?
Emerson Colonial Theatre will contact you via the information you provided at the time of purchasing your ticket in the rare event that a performance is cancelled or postponed. Can I bring my bag into the theatre?
Guests are required to comply with bag searching and security. Luggage and large bags will not be permitted. There is no location to check bags in the venue. Bags larger than standard backpack size of 22” x 14” x 9” will not be permitted into the venue. Outside food and beverage, including leftovers and restaurant to-go bags, is not permitted. If food is required due to a medical condition, please see a staff member for accommodations.

Where are the restrooms located?
There are women’s rooms are located on the Orchestra level, Dress Circle, and Balcony.  Men’s rooms are located on the Lower level, Dress Circle, and Balcony. There is a fully accessible Family/Gender Neutral restroom, complete with changing table accommodations, located on the Orchestra level. Emerson Colonial Theatre's policy is that all guests can use whatever restroom they are most comfortable using.

Are children allowed in the theatre?
All audience members regardless of age must have a ticket; no lap seating is permitted. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. For younger guests there is a Family restroom located on the Orchestra level that is equipped with a changing table. Please note that individual events may have suggested age guidelines. When applicable, these notations will appear on the shows’ event pages

The Emerson Colonial Theatre is committed to creating a safe and enjoyable entertainment experience. By entering this theatre, you agree to the following guest code of conduct.

 

  • Guests will adhere to all photo, video and recording policies at all times.
  • Guests will comply with bag searching and security. Bags larger than standard backpack size of 22” x 14” x 9” will not be permitted.
  • Guests will sit only in their ticketed seats and must show their tickets when requested. Every guest must have a ticket.
  • Guests will not be permitted to smoke, which includes e-cigarettes, on premises at any time.
  • Guests will consume alcoholic beverages in a responsible manner. Intervention with an impaired guest will be handled in a prompt and safe manner.
  • Guests will comply with requests from venue staff regarding facility operations and emergency response procedures.
  • All guests under the age of 15 must have a guardian present.
  • Latecomers will comply with being seated at the discretion of the management.
  • Guests shall not interfere with performers or events in any way.

 

Prohibited items 
 
All guests entering the Emerson Colonial Theatre will be screened prior to entry. The items listed below are not permitted. Items that are confiscated may not be returned. If you are unsure about an item, please do not bring it with you.

 

  • Outside food & beverage, including leftovers and restaurant to-go bags. If food is required due to a medical condition, please see a staff member for accommodations.
  • Large professional camera and/or video recording equipment.
  • Flashlights and laser pointers.
  • Illegal substances.
  • Noise making devices and fireworks.
  • All weapons, including firearms, ammunition, knives, swords, scissors, OC spray (mace), and any dangerous items are strictly prohibited.

The Emerson Colonial Theatre has the right to refuse entry if any of the above-mentioned conditions are not met

Accessible Tickets
All official Emerson Colonial Theatre ticketing platforms (website, call center and box office) provide opportunity for guests to purchase accessible seating.

Wheelchair access
Wheelchair access is available at the main entrance to the building on Boylston Street. Please request wheelchair seating from a sales representative at time of purchase. Designated ADA seating locations are located on the Orchestra level of the theatre. An ADA accessible restroom is also located on the Orchestra level. There is no elevator access in the building.
 
Assistive listening services
Assisted Listening services are available for all performances on your phone. To use your personal device, download the MobileConnect app before you arrive. A limited number of Sennheiser listening devices and iPods are also available for use at each performance.
 
Captioning services are provided by GalaPro at specified performances through the GalaPro app on your personal device at the discretion of each show.
 
Service animals
Service dogs that are trained to provide services or tasks for guests with disabilities are permitted. Examples of services include: guiding a guest who is blind, alerting a guest who is deaf, interrupting a compulsive behavior.
 
All service dogs must:
• Be under the handler’s control at all times. In most cases this means on a harness or leash.
•  Be housebroken.
•  Not pose a legitimate, direct threat to health or safety.
•  Not take up additional seats unless a ticket has been purchased for the adjacent seat for the service dog.
 
Emotional support animals
Emotional support animals, sometimes referred to as “comfort animals” or “companion animals”, whose sole function is to provide comfort or support, are not considered service animals under the ADA or the Massachusetts law and are not permitted.
